Jim Hart
Sheriff-Coroner

The Sheriff’s Office Task Force on 21st Century Policing was established in November 2015 by former Sheriff Jim Hart to modernize the agency’s policing model, enhance public safety, reaffirm its commitment to the community, and maintain the trust and confidence it had earned. The Task Force, consisting of deputies and support staff, convened six times to review and evaluate the Recommendations and Action Items outlined in the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing Report, with the goal of developing an implementation plan. Concurrently, the Sheriff’s Advisory Team—composed of community members—met six times to provide citizen input on ways the Sheriff’s Office could strengthen trust between law enforcement and the public while advancing effective crime prevention strategies. The outcomes of these collaborative efforts are reflected in the Recommendations, Implementation, and Data sections, all of which are available on the agency’s website.
